The city of Ayutthaya
The ancient city of Ayutthaya is situated 72 km to the north from Bangkok. The city was founded in 1350 by King U-Thong. Ayutthaya is a former capital of the Kingdom of Siam. It was destroyed by the Burmese in 1767. But now it is one of the main tourist destinations in Thailand. The city got its name after the city of Ayodhya in India. Perhaps Ayutthaya is not very attractive at first sight and may seem to be boring for tourists, but be sure its numerous ruins will bring you great pleasure. They form Ayutthaya Historical Park which is considered to be a UNESCO World Heritage Site. One of the main attractions of the city is the Ancient Palace. Originally it was built by king Ramatibodi. Most buildings were destroyed but the wooden Tri Muk Building was reconstructed in its original style.
