Thailand Temple of the Dawn

Thailand Temple of the DawnWat Arun also known as the Temple of the Dawn is one of the main tourist attractions in Thailand. The name derives from Aruna, the Indian god of the dawn. It consists of a grand oblong prang (Khmer-style tower) and is enclosed by four smaller prangs. Some sources state that the height of the prang is 104m, others claim – nearly 80-85 m. So you’d better go and check yourself. You will get a real pleasure. The prang is decorated by pieces of porcelain which had served as ballast on boats on their way from China to Bangkok. During a short period of time the Wat used to be a host of the famous Emerald Buddha. If you go up the stairs of the main prang you will be amazed by the stunning view of the Chao Phraya river. The best place to enjoy the view of the Wat Arun with the setting sun in the background is cosy restaurants on the opposite side of the river.
